Hey Grads,
Hi Grads!
To celebrate this holiday season, UTMAGS is hosting a holiday event! Come by the Blind Duck Pub on Dec 6th from 5:30 to 8:00 pm and bring your ugliest holiday sweater! There will be food (halal and veggie friendly), drinks and candy bars, plus a trivia competition and raffle. Best of all, we are having an ugly sweater competition (see below for details)! Entrance is 2 food drive donations, or $5. Food drive and raffle proceeds will go to charity.
To sign up for the ugly sweater competition, email hamna.fayyaz@mail.utoronto.ca with group member names (and graduate departments and she can arrange a time to hand out kits via email).
Kit with sweater and basic decorations are provided (but you can use your own decorations as well) (10 kits in total)
Sign up closes Dec 5 at 7pm.
One group member must wear and participate in a small “fashion” show. Audience votes on best sweater and the first place team members receive a prize.
Hey Grads, see attached poster for an exciting now opportunity to improve you writing skills for grad school!
Hi graduate students,

Location: NE 4107
To register: https://www.utm.utoronto.ca/asc/editing-your-work-science-students-focus-sentences-and-paragraphs-registration
Date and Time: Thursday November 8th, 2018 from 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.
Location: NE 4107
Workshops’ description:
We all know how rare it is for good and clear writing to happen in first drafts. For most of us, most of the time, it’s the editing stage (or editing stages!) that turns a collection of good ideas into a good text. In this workshop, we’ll discuss and use best practices in editing, focusing especially on working on the sentence and paragraph level. In addition to working through issues of grammar and basic syntactical rules, we’ll work on deepening your understanding of how your choices of word order and structure affect your readers by analyzing and rewriting sample material. This workshop will help you write prose that is correct, that is clear, and that communicates what you want to communicate.
Halloween is upon us, and you know what that means…
The UTMAGS annual Halloween lunch is here! Come join us for a free taco lunch with lots of candy on Oct. 31 at 12 pm in the grad lounge. Costumes are not required, but you’re more than welcome to bring them!
