Family Care Advisor at UofT Mississauga

Date: May 26 (last advising day of the year)
Time: Appointments are available between 10 am and 3pm.

If you are seeking support and advice on any personal family matters, a family care advisor will be available on the UTM Campus to meet with students, staff and faculty for individual confidential consultations. Book an appointment to discuss the following:

  • Planning for a child, pregnancy, resources for new parents.
  • The University’s maternity / parental / adoption/primary caregiver leave policies.
  • Child care, schools & other programs for children.
  • Services and supports for an aging family member.
  • Balancing work, study & family.
  • Parenting strategies.
  • Bereavement resources.
  • Separation & divorce resources.

To book an appointment, please email family.care@utoronto.ca with the following information: your student or staff number, UofT employee group and/or your union affiliation if applicable, and a brief explanation of your enquiry.

Need a Babysitter?

We can help! The Family Care Office created an online Babysitter Listing to assist UTM staff, faculty, and student parents in finding casual child care. The babysitters, who are University of Toronto students or partners of, have a wide array of training and experience with children and child care and are available to babysit in Mississauga and Toronto. To access a directory of available babysitters please email us with your student or employee number at: family.care@utoronto.ca.

UTM Research Colloquium

In collaboration with VP-Research Office and UTM Library; UTMAGS and the Office of the Vice-Dean Graduate will be holding the inaugural UTM Graduate Research Colloquium. This special full-day event will provide the opportunity for graduate students to showcase their work to fellow students, post-docs, and faculty from all departments.

The Colloquium is scheduled on Monday, May 4th, 2015 from 9:00 am – 5:40 pm in CCT Building, room 1080 and 1140. A dinner will follow at 6:00 pm in the Faculty Club, room 3140-DV.

Graduate students can choose to present either: a 15 minute oral presentation, a thrilling 2 minute thesis talk, or present a poster. As the Colloquium aims to promote a wide variety of academic research on campus, presentations should be geared toward a general academic audience.

A short abstract is required for a talk or poster. Deadline for abstract submissions is Friday, April 24th, 2015.

The UTM Library is generously offering free poster printing. Please get in touch with Tanya at, tanya.kenesky@utoronto.ca for printing your poster.

Cash prizes will be awarded to the top two presenters in each category. Prizes:

Talk Presentation

2nd prize – $100

UTMAGS Christmas Party!

It’s time to celebrate the end of another year at the UTMAGS annual Christmas party!

That is not an error on the poster – there will be over ONE THOUSAND dollars in prizes! (Did someone say “iPad”?). Raffle tickets are $2 each, $10 for 10 tickets, or $20 for 30 tickets. The donation of a non-perishable food item for Food Banks Canada will earn you an additional ticket.

MUST2014 Event on Nov 21

Most Understandable Scientist (MUST) will take place on November 21, 2014 at University of Toronto. This is the first time that UTCSSA (University of Toronto Chinese Student and Scholars Association) and UTGSU join hands to host such a large-scale academic event.

After a selection round by the advisory committee, a total of twelve (12) graduate students from different disciplines will stand on the final stage in Koffler House to share their fresh thoughts and findings with each other and the audiences. Each of the contestants will finish their presentations within 5 minutes, in the most vivid and understandable way. The contestant who gets the most appreciations from judges and audience will be the winner.

MUST is not only a competition but a platform for graduate students from different majors and research fields to communicate, to share and to explore the possibilities of cooperation and interaction.

We have prepared special gifts for lucky audience. We are looking forward to seeing you this Friday afternoon. Food, drinks, and coupons for a sponsor cafe will also be provided.
